Limitations on Strings with Value Labels

Both SAS and SPSS support the labeling of string variables.  Stat/Transfer will automatically transfer such value labels, both to the internal file formats of SAS or SPSS and to the program files written by Stat/Transfer to create fixed format ASCII files.
